Enrollment in the International Direct Deposit Program (IDD)
 

International Direct Deposit is the mechanism by which your monthly benefit payment will be electronically transferred from the U.S. Federal Government to your bank account in Panama.   This system is faster and more convenient than receiving a paper check. You will not depend on the postal service or any other intermediary to receive your payments.

Who is Eligible to Enroll in the International Direct Deposit Program?
At this time, all Office of Personnel Management, Social Security and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries residing in Panama may enroll in the International Direct Deposit Program.

When Will I Receive my Payment if I Enroll in International Direct Deposit?
For the Office of Personnel Management recipients, the electronic transfer will be effective the second business day of each month. For Social Security recipients, the electronic transfer will be effective the fourth business day of each month.   For the Veterans Affairs recipients, the electronic transfer will be effective the first business day of the month.

How Can I Enroll in International Direct Deposit?
You may visit the FBU or send an e-mail to Panama-FBU@state.gov and we will provide you with the IDD form to enroll in the International Direct Deposit Program.  You should complete sections 1 and 2 of the form and take it to the bank. They will then complete section 3. Once the form is fully completed and signed by you and the bank you should bring the form to the Federal Benefits Unit unless the bank offers the service of bringing it to us for you.

For Social Security beneficiaries:
If you receive your Social Security benefits in a country other than Panama and you wish to enroll in the International Direct Deposit Program, you are required to complete a form SSA-21 (Supplement to Claim of Person outside the United States) which can be obtained and completed at the Federal Benefits Unit or you may print a copy at the following website: www.ssa.gov/online/ssa-21.pdf and bring it to the Federal Benefits Unit for processing in order for the change to go into effect.  You will need to bring your US Passport and Naturalization certificate, if you were naturalized.

Your electronic payments should begin in 30-90 days after the form has been received at the Federal Benefits Unit.
