US Coast Guard Cutter CHASE in Panama
April 21, 2006
More than a dozen men and women from US Coast Guard Cutter CHASE participated in a Community Relations Project last Friday, April 21, 2006.
During this day Fundacion Pro-Vida, a shelter for abused and deprived children, hosted USCG as well as representatives from the following: Escuela Primaria Omar Torrijos Herrera which serves approximately 700 children, 12 from Fundación Pro-Vida. Education Program “En Busca de un Mañana” which serves 654 at-risk youth, Hogar San Jose Malambo orphanage which serves 160 children from infants to teen-agers and Fundación Crisitiana Medico Social which provides medical services approximately 400 disadvantaged in rural areas of the country monthly.
The donations included books, clothes, medical and personal hygiene items and soccer balls. In addition to the donation of these items, US Coast Guardsmen were able to paint some parts of the building of Fundación Pro-Vida. (USCG enjoyed supporting the Foundation so much that they went back on Sunday to do plumbing work and bring games and interact with the children.)
Special thanks to the VFW Post 3835, Ladies Auxiliary representatives led by Mrs. Jessie Littesy who provided lunch and dessert to all US Coast Guardsmen and women as well as the representatives of the participating NGO's.
This was a great day during which the participating NGO's had an opportunity to network and exchange information amongst each other. PTPC shared information regarding Thomas and Linda McCormack Foundation which provides free items to victims of breast cancer and recent and upcoming USAir Force medical tours.
