U.S. Embassy celebrates Independence Day
July 1, 2004
The American Embassy in Panama celebrated the U.S. independence on Thursday, July 1, with a reception held at the Marriott Hotel, Panama City. The musical presentation, provided by U.S. banjo-player Dan Mazer and Panamanian Polyphonic Chorus and the Jazz Quintet Grupo Ad Libitum, featured jazz, bluegrass, and spirituals in an overview of the United States' rich musical contributions to music.
We also commemorated our Declaration of Independence, the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial, the sesquicentennial of the publication of "Walden Pond", the centennial of the Wright Brothers' flight, and the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision.
We also acknowledged the value we place on good citizenship and volunteerism by presenting the Outstanding American awards to those U.S. citizens who have made a positive difference in the lives of Panamanians.
