The United States Embassy is pleased to participate with 20th Century Fox Latin America and Telemetro/Mas Que Cine in the premiere of the movie Lincoln at the Multicentro Cinemark theatre.

Lincoln, nominated for 12 Oscar Academy Awards, is produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, with the participation of actor Daniel Day-Lewis in the role as president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.  The movie has been nominated as Best Movie, Spielberg as Best Director and Day-Lewis as Best Actor.

Lincoln is a drama that tells the story of the efforts President Abraham Lincoln went through in 1865 to pass the 13th Amendment to the Constitution before the U.S. House of Representatives, and formally abolish slavery in the United States.  Through the conviction, determination and leadership of President Lincoln, the Amendment became a law in the United States.

Ambassador Farrar said: “The words and actions of Lincoln all stem from the eternal truth that say all men and women around the world have been created equal.”

The Lincoln premiere also commemorated the 150th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Emancipation, a milestone in the history of the United States.  By highlighting the contributions of President Lincoln to the abolishment of slavery, we kick off our annual Black History Month celebrations in February.
