US Navy Ship Curts
The slippery slopes held back the bus, but not the 30 Navy sailors from the USS Curts who spent the morning plastering the walls at Escuela Monte Claro in Arraijan.
The one-classroom school serves 15 students in grades 1-6, some with special needs, in one classroom with one teacher in a deprived community in Arraijan.
Last October, the school received a monetary donation from US Navy sister-ship USS McClusky providing funds to raise the roof providing better ventilation in the hot days, and also funds to provide three ceiling fans.
On Sunday, May 28th, the sailors from USS Curts plastered the added height on the walls; installed rolls of insulation in place to keep temperatures down, and built a garden. Others mowed the grass and shared juices and cookies with community children.
The Association of Veterans Spouses and Friend Volunteers showed their support by providing a delicious spaghetti luncheon for which Patrick Brasfield, NC1 and Clinton Burr, PAO expressed sincere appreciation on behalf of the group of volunteers.
Arraijan Representative, Marylin Vallarino provided support and expressed appreciation for the efforts and support provided to the deprived community.
