U.S. Coast Guard Volunteers Paint Hospital in Panama
On August 9th, 2006, Captain Jeffrey S. Lee from the U.S. Coast Guard(USCG) led a group of volunteer sailors from the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton in a community relations project, during which they spent the day painting walls at the Policentro de Salud de Parque Lefevre at the bequest of Dr. Maria Rosas, Sub-Director of the Policentro. This USCG project is just one part of our continued efforts to help Panamanians and Panamanian institutions in need.
The Policentro de Salud is a public facility that cares for around 250 patients daily. The clinic has been receiving continued support from a group of volunteers from the United States Department of Defense Retirees Wives Club of Panama (USDODRWC). This group of ladies is mostly involved with a group of 150 elderly Panamanian patients that attend a special program at the Policentro three times per week.
The volunteers painted the walls of the clinic on all three levels. After the completion of the project the U.S.DOD Wives Club provided a typical Panamanian lunch which was enjoyed by the Coast Guard volunteers and clinic staff. Dr. Victor Manuel Castillo, Medical Director of the clinic, expressed sincere appreciation to the US Embassy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the USDODRWC on behalf of the clinic and its patients. Captain Lee and People-to-People Coordinator. Wagner are looking forward to helping with more community projects upon their return to Panama.
