Possessory Property Rights in Panama

The U.S. Embassy understands there is concern within the American community in Panama about proposed changes in the law regarding the recognition of possessory property rights and the titling of possessory rights in coastal areas and islands.  The Panamanian National Assembly may start discussion of the proposed changes during a “first debate” on Proposed Law 71 on Thursday, October 15.   As the Panamanian legislative process and the debate within Panamanian society progresses, the U.S. Embassy will continue to follow this issue and communicate relevant developments.
